What will i learn?

Our Primary School is divided into two phases, Foundation Phase (Grade 1 to 3) and Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 to 6).

Our Grade 1-6's work on the ACE - Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum combined with the Science section from the Cambridge Curriculum. From Grade 7 onwards the full Cambridge Curriculum is applied.

Foundation Phase - Grade 1 to 3

Basic Math skills are introduced, developed, mastered, reviewed and consistently reinforced in a variety of imaginative ways throughout the material.

The English curriculum develops optimal language skills through its balanced scope and sequence. Each level moves learners step by step, continually building on traditional grammar and usage concepts.

Establish a good foundation with Afrikaans. New vocabulary is practiced whilst playing fun board games, as well as listening and speaking along with DVDs.

Word Building

Word Building is a vocabulary-controlled study of selected words, root words, prefixes and suffixes, traditionally called spelling. Word Building is designed to build vocabulary, spelling skills as well as reading and writing.

Literature and Creative Writing

The A.C.E. Literature and Creative Writing course is designed to nurture a passion for reading and creative writing. Animated cartoon characters Ace, Christi and their friends, lead learners through foundational concepts of writing.

Social Studies

Social Studies (Sciences) is the study of people, their activities, customs and institutions in relationship to other people. Social Studies includes history, economics, geography and government.

This course looks at world history and cultures from the perspective that God is the Designer, Creator and Controller of the universe.

Science is knowledge based on observed facts and tested truths, presented in an orderly fashion. Science includes the study of plants, animals, biology, physical science, chemistry and physics.

The curriculum takes learners' natural curiosity about their physical environment and helps them build a solid foundation upon Biblical principles.

Animal Science

Children love to learn about animals. The Animal Science programme encourages an interest in their habitats, special features and physical characteristics. It takes young learners on an adventure where they "meet" the members of an exciting animal family each time they open the cover of a new PACE. They learn about the animals' habitats, ranges, physical characteristics and special features.

Intermediate Phase - Grade 4 to 6

It is important for learners to work at a comfortable pace.

The mathematics curriculum provides a logical, orderly method of taking learners from the known to the unknown. As learners progress through the grades all mathematical concepts and principles are built upon one another. Regular, systematic testing and evaluation promote mastery of the material.

The English language curriculum and learning materials are thorough and designed to prepare the learner with solid understanding and application skills required for the senior phase of education.

Strong Communication Skills

For a language to be learned, it is first heard, then spoken, afterwards read then written. Thus for successful learning of the language and especially for first additional learners, the emphasis is on a strong communicative approach lending itself to a combination of group work and self-study.

Word Building

Learners are required to learn spellings using phonics, learn meanings, use the words in sentences, to read and sound out the words, to identify root words, change words from one part of speech into another part of speech (for example nouns to verbs). In addition, grade 6 learners are required to work with the prefixes, stems and suffixes/extensions to form other words. They also explore the origin of words.

Literature and Creative Writing

Children immerse themselves in a story line and work through with a sense of reality which often leads to self-analysis and self-awareness.

In addition, creative writing allows the child to explore new concepts and ideas as well as ways to communicate at a higher level.

Social Studies

There is emphasis on reality and experience where learners have opportunity to look at their own worlds, to ask questions and develop a deeper knowledge about their country and the world at large.

Science involves more than the gaining of knowledge. It is a systematic and organised enquiry into the natural world and its phenomena. Science is about gaining a deeper and often useful understanding of the world. Learners study how the principles apply to God's physical creation and to everyday life.
